Bible Timeline Friday morning group-begins January 14!

Hello All,

I hope you have had a Blessed Christmas and I wish you a Happy 2022!

We will resume the Bible Timeline Friday morning group next Friday, January 14 at 9am in the Fireside Cafe. We will be discussing Session 12: Royal Kingdom Part 2. We will meet for 12 consecutive Fridays.

As you are all well aware, the COVID situation has been quite challenging during the past 5-6 weeks. The parish has purchased and installed a HEPA H13 air purifier in the Fireside Cafe which should be quite helpful in capturing viral particles. We will have the doors open throughout our sessions to provide further air flow. However, if you are notl comfortable being in the room, the ZOOM option remains available for our discussion-thank you Ann Sarnowski! Additionally, as you likely know, you are able to view all of Jeff Cavins' lectures on line.

Here is the link you'll need to join the ZOOM for our discussion which typically begins at 9:45/9:50am:

For instructions re: the procedure for watching Jeff's lectures on line, please visit our bible study blog at stjeromebiblestudy.blogspot.com. Our blog contains all emails I have sent since our study began in September 2021.

Please email me with any questions/comments/concerns. I look forward to seeing you next Friday!

God bless

Answer to question from last session re: Saul and evil spirit

Hello All,

At our session on 12/3, we had discussed the evil spirit that entered Saul (see 1 Samuel Chapter 16) wondering whether God sent an evil spirit to torment Saul.

Jeff Cavins answered this question in a Facebook post which is part of the Bible in a Year series (you do not need a Facebook account to watch this-I don't have one)-watch the first 8 minutes:

And here is another answer-note this is not a Catholic site but it is a similar answer to the one Jeff gives:

A Blessed Advent and Christmas to all! See you Friday January 14 at 9am as we begin our second "semester" beginning with Session 12: Royal Kingdom: Part 2. Regarding winter cancellations, if St. Jerome School is cancelled for weather, our bible study will not meet that day and we will extend by one week.

God bless,

Hello All,

This Friday, December 3, will be our final session before we break for Advent and Christmas. We will start again on Friday January 14, 2022 and will meet weekly for 12 sessions.

Ann Sarnowski and Mary Jo Gordon will be away Friday-have fun and thank you Ann and Mary Jo!-so please bring your own coffee or other drink. I will be bringing a little treat so you might want something to drink!

Here are some answers to questions our group has had in the past few weeks:

First, there are some for which I was not able to find more detailed answers: where was the gold and other precious objects taken from the Canaanites stored by the Israelites? why don't we hear more about Moses' children? why was Miriam punished more severely than Aaron? any reason other than lots for the way the land was divided among the twelve tribes? If anyone is able to find reliable answers to these questions, please let me know.

More information regarding herem warfare (total destruction) and the Nazarite vow (Samson, Samuel, likely John the Baptist & others)

See you Friday!

Bible Timeline-answers to questions and our bible study blog!!!

Hello All,

Here are answers to questions that have been asked during the past few weeks. Questions are in bold, I have provided links for answers:

1. What was the concept of heaven/hell/afterlife during Old Testament times: (very timely with All Souls Day coming 11/2 and the month of November-see Fr. Gibson's excellent pastoral letter in this coming Sunday's bulletin)

Normally I provide only Catholic sources, but this is an exception-a Jewish source:

2. Why did God want to kill Moses in Exodus 4?

Not a Catholic source again, but this was the answer I found in all sources I reviewed.

3. What were the "family gods" (also called Teraphim) Rebekah stole (Genesis 31)?

Two other housekeeping details:

1. Here is the Zoom link for the discussions-we normally start our discussions at approximately 9:50am.

AHG Troop0214 is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

2. (sorry I didn't mean to "bold" this but I can't get it off-Lastly, as some of you know, we have a bible study blog thanks to Erin Dischler! All of my emails as well as other helpful i as well as other helpful information appear on the blog which is: http://stjeromebiblestudy.blogspot.com. For example, the methods for accessing the lectures whether you have the new book or the old book appear on the blog.
