Several items!

Hello All,

It was good to see everyone on Friday!

Next week's assignment is Session 2-Early World Part 1. We will be meeting in the Youth Room next week due to a funeral visitation and Mass. (you can enter by the off thru the hallway off the Narthex to the left after passing the Fireside Cafe or by passing the restrooms and turning right.)

After this, I won't be sending out the weekly assignment-please follow along in the book-one session per week.

IMPORTANT: We have a new website for you to follow as a companion to our weekly bible study meetings. All of my emails to the group, answers to questions, and other updates will be on this blog. You will still receive my messages via email but the blog will be a "one-stop shop" containing all of my emails. You can register your email address on the blog so that you receive an email update each time I post something. Thank you Erin Dischler and Ann Sarnowski for getting this going!

We discussed useful publications for daily Mass readings:

3. The Word Among Ushttps://wau.org

5 Laudete: EXCELLENT free app for download containing the daily readings and lots of other wonderful times such as the Catechism etc! this is the Apple version but you can also find for iOS devices on the app store. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/laudate-1-free-catholic-app/id499428207

Even if you're unable to attend daily Mass, reading/praying over the readings is a wonderful way to start the day!

God bless,
Krishna Smith

Update for Next Week, 9/14

Hello All,

It was good to meet everyone yesterday at our first Bible Timeline session! We have 3 new members-Laura Molenda, Sue Molenda and Pat Stephan. Welcome!

For next week, September 14, please prepare “Session 1: Finding the Story in Scripture”. The readings, etc are self-explanatory. There are no responses to the discussion questions for Session 1, but starting with Session 2, you’ll find the responses at the back of the book. Don’t forget that the outline for each of Jeff Cavins’ lectures are the “talk notes” in your study set.

We will meet for 12 consecutive weeks (starting with yesterday, Sept 7) from 9-10:30am in the Fireside Cafe also knows as the Narthex Conference Room-except we will skip the day after Thanksgiving. We will end for the fall “semester” on Friday November 30. We will take a break for Advent and Christmas and reconvene on Friday January 11, 2019 for 12 consecutive Fridays ending on Friday March 29. Easter is on Sunday April 21, so we will finish well ahead of Holy Week.

If you are able to prepare in advance, you’ll find you will get the most out of the study-it is best to do a little each day. Jeff Cavins suggests 15 min per day.

But if you have not had time to prepare, PLEASE ATTEND ANYWAY! You will still gain much from watching Jeff’s outstanding lectures and hearing the discussion afterwards.

We will start each session at 9am sharp and will watch Jeff’s 50 minute lecture. Then we will go over the discussion questions. If you prefer to listen and don’t feel comfortable speaking in the discussion, that is just fine! Participation in the discussions is entirely voluntary. We all benefit from each others’ presence! We will always end at 10:30am sharp.

My job as facilitator is to keep our discussions focused on the discussion questions in the study set. Please do not take it personally if I redirect the discussion if we get off on a tangent-this is my role.

If you miss a session, you will be able to view Jeff’s lectures on line. Here are the instructions:

1.Go to www.ascensionpress.com
2. Log in. (If this is your first Ascension Press study, you will have to create a new account with a user name and password)
3. Click on “Join a Study”
4. Click on “REDEEM CODE” and enter L2NKSQ and other required information.
5. You will now be able to view the lectures. You may view each lecture as many times as you would like until May 31, 2019. You only need to enter the redemption code once.

(Note-if you are using the study sets from 4 years ago, there is a different way to view the lectures-I will be sending you a separate email).

Please email me with any questions. Looking forward to seeing you next Friday!

God bless,
Krishna Smith

Welcome to Friday morning bible study at St. Jerome’s-The Bible Timeline

Hello All,

My name is Krishna Smith and I will be the facilitator for the Friday morning bible study at St. Jerome’s-The Bible Timeline-The Story of Salvation. Welcome to all new participants and welcome back to those who have participated in previous bible studies.

I pray that this will be an informative and inspiring bible study for you all!

Our first meeting will be at 9am on Friday September 7 in the Fireside Cafe just off of the Narthex at St. Jerome’s. We will meet for 12 consecutive Fridays starting September 7.

Your study sets have arrived at the St. Jerome Parish Office. Please pick them up at your earliest convenience. Please read through “Introduction: About This Study" in your study set prior to our first meeting.

At our first meeting, we will introduce ourselves to each other, view the Jeff Cavins lecture for the Introduction (11 minutes vs. the usual 50 minute lecture), I will review many details about the study and will answer any questions.
For this bible study, you will need your study set, a Catholic Bible, and a copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

It is recommended that you have the Revised Standard Edition-Catholic Edition (RSV-CE) bible for this study as all citations within the study are from this bible. The New American Bible-Catholic Edition is another good one.

**Something new this year! The Great Adventure Catholic Bible is hot off the press! I have purchased this bible already (thank you to Trish Shult for recommending!) and will bring it to the first meeting. It was developed by Ascension Press to incorporate the Great Adventure’s color-coded Bible Timeline. It is outstanding. Here is additional information: https://shop.ascensionpress.com/products/the-great-adventure-catholic-bible. If you are in the market for a new bible, you may want to consider it.

If you have any questions before our first meeting, please feel free to email me at fkdcsmith@wi.rr.com. I will get back to you after the Labor Day weekend!

God bless,
Krishna Smith
