James: Pearls for Wise Living Bible Study

Hello All,

Welcome to the Ascension Press Bible Study, "James: Pearls for Wise Living" featuring Jeff Cavins!

I am looking forward to facilitating the Friday morning group which will meet in Marian Hall from 9-10:30am for 11 consecutive Fridays beginning on September 11.

Please pick up your study guide at the parish office. There is no reading assignment for the first session (unless you have a few minutes to read pp vii-xii and pp. 1-4) so you can always pick it up when you come to our first session.

We will begin each session listening to a dvd lecture by Jeff Cavins followed by discussion of the questions in the study guide. There are no discussion questions for the first session on September 11.  

Next week, I will distribute the link for access to the on line lectures. Many participants like to watch the lecture before or after our session and it is a wonderful option if you have to miss a session.

**IMPORTANT**:  We are so happy that we are able to offer this bible study during a time when we are all desiring to resume formation! As you read in the bulletin announcements, we will require that each participant wear a face covering during all sessions in order to protect the health of fellow participants. We will be properly socially distanced in Marian Hall. I will be following the health and safety COVID guidelines of the Catholic Medical Association, a nonpartisan orthodox Catholic organization-I have been a Catholic physician member for many years and the organization has been providing cutting edge recommendations since the pandemic began in March.

Galatians Bible Study-Canceled

Hello All,

After much consideration, medical reading, and prayer and with a very heavy heart, I have decided to cancel the last two Galatians Bible Study sessions due to the Covid-19 situation. As many of you may have been reading, it is essential to practice social distancing as the virus spreads in Wisconsin-that is, maintaining a minimum of 6 feet between individuals to avoid contamination with droplets from infected individuals. Many infected individuals are asymptomatic for several days before developing symptoms, but are highly contagious. Social distancing (as well as good handwashing technique, remaining home when sick, etc) is one important method to “flatten the curve” (see below), hopefully resulting in reduction of the number of infected individuals with Covid-19 ,and  protection of precious health care resources such as ICU beds, respirators, etc. It is not possible to practice social distancing in the Fireside Cafe. Many of you know that I am a physician and, as a result, I feel an additional responsibility as a health care professional to protect the health of all.

Our bible study is one of the highlights of my week-it is difficult to describe how much I will miss our discussions. However, we are fortunate to be able to view Jeff Cavins’ lectures on line so I encourage you to complete the remaining sessions on your own. If you do not have the information to access the on line lectures, please view them on our bible study blog: stjeromebiblestudy.blogspot.com. See the February 9 post.

I plan to send you the answers to the questions raised in the last few sessions. I also have an additional resource for the most recent lesson that we missed Friday and hope to have others for you as we move through the next two lessons. If you have questions, please email them to me and I will look for answers!

Galatians Bible Study

Hello All,

It was good to see you on Friday for our first session of the Galatians Bible Study! We have 7 remaining sessions-well meet every Friday from 9-10:30am in the Fireside Cafe/Narthex Conference Room at St. Jerome's.

We'll begin watching Jeff Cavins' lectures for each lesson at 9am sharp. We'll follow with a group discussion and end precisely at 10:30am.

You will need a Catholic bible, a copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and the Galatians workbook. If you weren't able to attend last Friday's meeting, your workbook is waiting for you in the St. Jerome Parish Office.

Please prepare Session 2 which begins on p.7 in your workbook and covers Galatians Chapter 1.

You are able to view all of Jeff Cavins' lectures on line by following the procedure below:

Go to www.ascensionpress.com.

Log in using your user name and password (if you do not have an account as yet, you will have to create one-its free)

You will now see "Your Dashboard". Just below those works, click on "Join a Study".

You will now see the words "Did you receive a Registration Code from your study leader?" Click on "REDEEM CODE" and enter 6YQ56R. 

You will now be able to view the lectures. 

You only have to enter the code once!

The lectures will be available to you until May 31, 2020.

Galatians-Set Free to Live

Good morning All,

Thank you so much for the gifts you gave me-I am thoroughly enjoying all!

Prayer request and addendum re: questions

Hello again All,

John (and Mary Kay) Sokop's daughter, Silvia has passed away from Stage 4 cancer. Please pray for all-she has two teenage girls in the Denver area. May Silvia's soul rest in peace.

Galatians Bible Study/Answers to Questions/Thank you!!!

Hello All,

We have our last session of the Revelation bible study this coming Friday. I have found this to be an inspiring study that has personally provided me a great deal of hope! And so timely with the current Mass readings about the last things! You will be able to view Jeff Cavins' lectures on line until 12/31/19. 

If you are interested in our next Friday morning bible study, Galatians: Set Free to Live, another Jeff Cavins study, please put a reminder on your calendar to sign up with Cheryl at the parish office on or soon after December 2, the first Monday of Advent. The Galatians study is 8 sessions beginning Friday February 8, 2020 and is WAY less intense than the Revelation study! We'll focus on the Mosaic Law, justification under the Law vs by faith, etc. Bulletin announcements begin the first weekend of Advent. We will be limited to 50 participants on Friday mornings. I do not know if a second evening session is planned. Many interesting  and important questions were raised in Friday's session. This afternoon I read the Catechism sections 988-1065 covering the resurrection of the body, death, the Particular Judgement, Hell, Heaven, Purgatory, the Last Judgement, and the hope of the New Heaven and the New Earth. Please read it! Most of the questions brought up on Friday are answered in these sections-so beautifully written, so comforting, countless scripture references-many from Revelation. You will completely understand it after doing this bible study and you will be able to explain it to others!

Particular vs. General Judgement: if a person's soul is in Heaven after their particular judgement, can they be sent to Hell after the General Judgement? The short answer is NO.
